PT on You...

An humiliated PT Usha broke down after she was not given proper accommodation at the National Athletics Meet in Bhopal.

Wow! Now this is a News. We are talking about a yesteryear International level Athlete, now a coach for other female athletes. A multiple gold medalist in Asian Games and a "nearly" bronze medalist in Olympics. Really pity to see that one who has put her heart and soul into a sport where recognition arrives very rare is meted out with such a situation.

If this is the attitude towards a person like Usha (Remember she was named sportsperson of the century by the Indian Olympic Association! Phew!!!), one can imagine the plight of other players. No wonder why Michael Fennell, the president of the Commonwealth Games Federation is sceptical about India's capability to held big sport events which is scheduled to be held next year. And with the recent number of accidents (Walls crumbling down, cranes crashing) in the Capital, it seems that the guy is good to be more skeptic.

What would have happened if this were a Cricket player? Why in India, there is only two sports: Cricket and Non-Cricket? No one cares about the people who made India proud in the second Non-Cricket area - Remember Milkha Singh? Remember P K Bannerjee? Forget all these, remember Sunil Chetri? And if I ask a group of people, if they know Manoj Prabhakar, majority of them shall know who he is. Right?

If this is how we are going to treat our own sports persons who are not into cricket, forget medals, even participation at international level will be a distant dream. Its better if we improve our basic sports infrastructure (other than Cricket) first before we hold the Common Wealth Games next year.

INDIA SHINING !!!
